If you are staying in Málaga, Torremolinos or Benalmádena, Marbella is about 60 km away and easy to reach on the motorway. The trip makes sense as a morning out: Mijas first, while the air is still fresh on the mountain, then the old-town walk in Marbella, and a last stroll in Puerto Banús before heading back east. Because the drives are short, it is also a gentle option for anyone who dislikes long car journeys.

Pickup
Your driver can collect you from hotels in Málaga's centre, La Malagueta, Pedregalejo, Torremolinos, Benalmádena Costa or Los Boliches in Fuengirola. Leaving at 09:00 suits the timings best and gets you to Mijas ahead of the tour coaches. From Fuengirola we set off a little later, since Mijas is right above you and the climb takes barely a quarter of an hour.
The drive
The car takes the A-7 west through Torremolinos and Benalmádena, then turns inland at Fuengirola onto the A-387, which winds up through pine trees and villas to Mijas Pueblo. From Mijas the car drops back to the coast and follows the AP-7 west to Marbella. The return is by whichever motorway is flowing best, with the Fuengirola castle of Sohail visible on the right. The whole loop is gentle.
