Private Ronda Day Tour with Your Own Driver and Official Guide
A full day in Ronda at your own pace: door to door in a Mercedes, two hours with an official guide across the Puente Nuevo and the old Moorish town, then free time for lunch and the cliff-top viewpoints.
What you'll see
- Stand on the Puente Nuevo and look straight down into the Tajo gorge
- Walk the lanes of La Ciudad, the old Moorish quarter, with an official guide
- See the Real Maestranza bullring, one of the oldest in Spain, opened in 1785
- Step down to the 13th-century Arab baths beside the Puente Viejo
- Take in the plain from the balconies of the Alameda del Tajo
- Lunch on rabo de toro or mountain charcuterie in the Mercadillo
Ronda sits on a limestone plateau split in two by El Tajo, a gorge almost 100 metres deep cut by the Guadalevín river. On one side is La Ciudad, the walled Moorish town of narrow lanes and palaces; on the other, El Mercadillo, which grew up after the Christian conquest of 1485 and holds the bullring and the shopping streets. The Puente Nuevo, finished in 1793, stitches them together. It is the view everyone has seen in photographs, and it is still startling when you stand at the rail and look down.
This is a private tour, so the car, the driver and the timings belong to your group alone. Your driver collects you from your door, handles the mountain road and the parking, and waits while your official guide, who holds a Junta de Andalucía licence, walks you through the town for two hours. After that the afternoon is yours: a long lunch, a walk down to see the bridge from below, or simply a coffee on the Alameda with the whole valley spread out beneath you.

How the day goes
Pick-up and the drive inland
Your driver meets you at the door at the agreed time. The road leaves the coast behind within minutes and climbs through olive groves and limestone ridges; it is usually a few degrees cooler at the top, as Ronda stands at around 750 metres. There is bottled water in the car, and you can ask for a stop for coffee or a photo whenever you like.
Puente Nuevo and the gorge
The guide meets you near the Plaza de España, a few steps from the bridge. From the viewpoints on either side you see how the 18th-century builders anchored the arch into the rock walls, and you hear the story of the earlier bridge that collapsed and of the room above the central arch, once used as a prison. Morning light falls kindly on the arch, so this is the moment for photographs.
La Ciudad, the Moorish town
Across the bridge the streets narrow. The guided walk takes in the Palacio de Mondragón and its courtyards, the church of Santa María la Mayor raised on the site of the old main mosque, the Casa del Rey Moro with its staircase cut down to the river, and stretches of the town walls. Then it drops to the Arab baths and the Puente Viejo, where the water still runs below.
The bullring and the Mercadillo
Back on the Mercadillo side, the guided walk finishes at the Real Maestranza bullring. Ronda is where the rules of modern bullfighting on foot took shape with the Romero family, and the building holds a museum as well as the arena; you decide whether to go in. Next door, the promenades named after Hemingway and Orson Welles lead to balconies on the cliff edge.
Lunch and free time
The afternoon is left unplanned on purpose. Your driver can suggest places to eat depending on what you fancy: a slow-cooked oxtail stew, a board of local chorizo and cheese, or something light on a terrace. Keen walkers can follow the path down beneath the bridge for the classic view of the arch from underneath; others browse Calle La Bola or rest on a bench in the Alameda.
Return to the coast
When you are ready, the driver collects you at an agreed spot near the centre, so nobody has to walk back uphill to a car park. Most people doze on the way home, or ask for one last stop at a roadside venta for a coffee and something sweet. You are dropped at your door in the late afternoon, within the eight hours of the tour.
Your guide
For two hours in Ronda you are with an official guide who carries Junta de Andalucía accreditation, in English or Spanish as standard; ask for a French, German or Italian speaker, or another language, and we will see which guides are free. The walk covers the Puente Nuevo and its viewpoints, the old town of La Ciudad with its palaces and churches, the Arab baths and the Puente Viejo, and ends at the bullring. Your driver does not guide: he gets you there, parks and gives practical tips.
Tickets
The guided walk is outdoors and needs no ticket. Some stops have their own entrance: the bullring and its museum, the Arab baths, the Casa del Rey Moro and its water mine, the Palacio de Mondragón. Tickets are not included; we can book the ones you want at the official price, or you can buy them at the entrance when you get there. Tell us when you book so the guide can plan the route around them.

Good to know
- Wear shoes with grip: the old town is cobbled and steep, and the path below the bridge is loose underfoot.
- Ronda is noticeably colder than the coast in winter and early spring; bring a jacket, especially for the morning.
- In July and August the midday sun beats down on the bridge and the bullring square, so do the guided walk in the morning and carry a hat and water.
- The area around the bridge and the Mercadillo is mostly level; La Ciudad and the descent to the baths mean steep slopes and steps. Tell us about reduced mobility and the guide will adapt the route.
- Weekends and bank holidays bring coach groups at midday; an early start keeps the viewpoints quieter.
- A sweet souvenir: yemas del Tajo, small egg-yolk confections sold in the town's pastry shops.

Frequently asked questions
How much walking does the Ronda tour involve?
The guided walk lasts about two hours at an easy pace, with plenty of stops. The streets around the bridge are fairly level, but crossing into La Ciudad and going down to the Arab baths means slopes and some steps. The driver can pick you up at the lower end so you avoid the climb back.
Can we go inside the bullring?
Yes. The Real Maestranza is open to visitors most of the year, and the entry covers the arena, the stands and a museum. It is not included in the price; we can book it at the official price or you can buy it there. The guide fits it in at the end of the walk.
Is Ronda worth visiting if it rains?
In light rain Ronda is atmospheric, with mist sitting in the gorge. The bullring museum, the Arab baths, the Palacio de Mondragón and Santa María give shelter, and the guide can change the order. In a downpour we will talk to you about moving the date, which is free up to 48 hours before.
Can we add another stop?
Within the eight hours, yes: it is your car. A viewpoint or a coffee in a village on the way is easy. Combining Ronda with the white villages or a winery in the same day is too much; for that we run separate white villages and Ronda wine tours, or you can add hours at the chauffeur rate.
Is the tour suitable for children?
Yes, children usually love the bridge and the gorge. We fit child seats at no charge; just request them when booking. The walk is in the open air and the guide can keep it short and lively for younger ones; a pushchair copes well in the Mercadillo but is hard work in the old town.
