Private Ronda Wine Tour: Wineries of the Serranía and Tapas
Two winery visits in the hills around Ronda, a long tapas lunch in town and a chauffeur who does all the driving, so everyone in the group can taste.
What you'll see
- Walk among the vines with the people who tend them
- See how wine is made and aged in a working cellar
- Taste the reds of the Serranía de Ronda where they are made
- Tapas in Ronda: cured meats, sheep's and goat's cheeses, mountain stews
- A look at the Puente Nuevo between tastings
- Nobody has to drive: your chauffeur takes care of it
Vines grew around Ronda in Roman times, and coins from nearby Acinipo carry bunches of grapes. Phylloxera wiped the vineyards out at the end of the 19th century, and for a hundred years these hills grew cereals and olives instead. Replanting began in the 1990s. Today the Serranía de Ronda is a sub-zone of the Sierras de Málaga designation of origin, with a cluster of small, mostly family-run wineries scattered across the plateau and the valleys that surround the town.
The vineyards are high, many at 600 metres or more, where hot days and cold nights give reds with fresh acidity. Tempranillo grows next to syrah, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot, alongside a few whites and rosés. On this tour you visit two wineries, chosen with you according to your taste and the day of the week, and the people at each winery show you the vines, the cellar and the wines themselves. Then you eat tapas in Ronda before the drive home. Car and driver remain at your disposal throughout, so a longer lunch or an earlier return is simply a matter of telling him.

Choose where we pick you up
How the day goes
Pick-up and the road into the Serranía
We collect you mid-morning, later than on most tours, because wineries open their doors to visitors from late morning. The route climbs from the coast into the hills, and the landscape shifts from villas and golf courses to dry-stone walls, holm oaks and, as you get close to Ronda, the first rows of vines. Your driver can point out which estates are which as you pass, so you arrive with your bearings.
First winery: vines and cellar
The first visit is usually the fuller one. Someone from the winery walks you through the vineyard, explains why altitude matters here and takes you into the cellar to see the tanks and the barrels. The tasting comes at the end, generally several wines with something to eat alongside; the exact format depends on the winery and is confirmed when we book.
Tapas in Ronda
Your driver drops you in the centre of town. This is the moment for a slow lunch of tapas: sierra charcuterie, cheese, wild mushrooms in season, oxtail, and a glass of a local wine you may have just tried at the cellar door. The bars around the Plaza del Socorro and the streets of the Mercadillo are a good place to start, and the driver will happily share his own favourites.
A glance at the gorge
Since you are in Ronda, it would be a pity to leave without seeing the Puente Nuevo. It is a few minutes on foot from the tapas bars, and a short stroll to the viewpoint is enough to look into the gorge. There is no guided visit on this tour; if the town's history is what draws you, our Ronda tour, where you can add an official guide, is the better fit.
Second winery
The afternoon visit is to a different kind of producer, often smaller, where the tasting may be led by the winemaker or a member of the family. It is a good chance to compare styles side by side, ask the questions you didn't think of in the morning and buy a few bottles, which travel safely in the boot of the car.
Back to the coast
With the wine safely stowed, the driver takes you home down the mountain road while the group compares notes on favourite bottles. The air conditioning and a cold bottle of water help after an afternoon of tasting, and anyone who wants to nap can stretch out. You are home by late afternoon, in time for a siesta or a swim.
Optional official guide
There is no official guide on this tour, because there are no monuments to visit. The visits are run by the wineries themselves: a member of the team, sometimes the winemaker, shows you the vineyard and the cellar and leads the tasting, in English or Spanish depending on the winery. Your driver keeps the timings, knows the way to wineries tucked down unmarked farm tracks and suggests tapas bars in town, but he does not guide.
Tickets
We book the winery visits and tastings for you, and you pay them directly at each winery, at the winery's own rates; we add no mark-up. When you book, tell us what you like (big reds, whites, organic producers) and which days suit you, as some wineries only receive visitors by appointment or on certain days. We confirm both wineries and their times before the tour. Lunch is not included either.

Good to know
- Have a proper breakfast: the first tasting comes before lunch.
- Wineries are working farms, so wear flat shoes for gravel paths and uneven cellar floors.
- Late summer and early autumn are harvest time, with the most activity in the cellars; winter is quieter, but bring a warm layer, as cellars and Ronda mornings are cold.
- Children are welcome on the drive and the vineyard walk, but tastings are for adults; tell us in advance so we choose wineries that are happy to receive families.
- Buying wine to take home? There is room in the boot; for the flight, wrap the bottles well in your checked luggage.
- Let us know about allergies or dietary needs so the winery can adapt whatever it serves with the wine.

Frequently asked questions
Do we need to know about wine?
Not at all. The visits are informal, and the winery staff pitch their explanations to whoever is in front of them, from curious beginners to collectors. Tell us your level when you book and we will choose the right places.
Can we choose the wineries?
Yes. If you have one in mind, tell us and we will check that it receives visitors on your date. If not, we suggest two that suit your taste and contrast with each other, and confirm them before the day.
Is there an official guide in Ronda on this tour?
No. The wine tour does not include a guided visit of Ronda; you get free time for tapas and a look at the bridge. If you want a walk through the old town and the bullring with an official guide, choose our Ronda tour and ask us to add one, or ask us about a longer day combining both with extra hours.
Can we visit wineries on a Sunday?
Some wineries open on Sundays and holidays and others do not, and it varies through the year. Give us your date and we will tell you which visits are possible; with several producers around Ronda there is usually a good option.
Can non-drinkers join?
Of course. They still enjoy the vineyard walk, the cellar and the tapas, and most wineries can offer water or juice during the tasting. And no one needs to stay sober to drive, because that is our job.
