Private Granada and Alhambra Tour from Málaga
Málaga is the closest base on the coast for a day at the Alhambra: about 125 km and 1 h 30 by motorway, so you arrive fresh and still have a long afternoon in Granada.
Staying in Málaga makes the Alhambra an easy day out. From the city it is roughly 125 km to the foot of the Sabika hill, nearly all of it on fast dual carriageway, and the drive takes about an hour and a half. That leaves time for the full three-hour visit, an unhurried lunch and a walk up to San Nicolás before heading back. Guests in Torremolinos, Benalmádena or Fuengirola join the same plan; we simply collect them a little earlier because of the extra distance along the coast.
A Málaga start also gives more choice with tickets. Being close means we can work with an early Nasrid Palaces slot without a pre-dawn alarm, or a midday slot that lets you sleep in and still be home for dinner. If you are on a city break, the day works well between visits to the Picasso Museum and the Alcazaba of Málaga, which makes a fun comparison with the Alhambra. And since you keep the driver until the last drop-off, you decide when to call it a day and head back.
Sample schedule
- Pickup at your door in Málaga city; earlier for Benalmádena and Fuengirola
- Arrival at the Alhambra entrance pavilion; your official guide meets you here if booked
- Visit begins: Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces at your slot, Charles V, Generalife
- Visit ends; your driver collects you by the exit
- Lunch in the Albaicín or the tapas streets around Plaza Nueva
- Mirador de San Nicolás, or the Royal Chapel and Alcaicería on the flat
- Departure from Granada towards the coast
- Back at your hotel or apartment in Málaga
Pickup
We collect you at the door of your hotel or apartment in the historic centre, Soho, La Malagueta, El Palo or Pedregalejo, and anywhere along the coast towards Fuengirola. For a morning palace slot the usual departure from central Málaga is around 08:00; from Benalmádena or Fuengirola we leave 20 to 30 minutes earlier. The exact pickup time is confirmed once we know your Alhambra time.
The drive
From Málaga we take the A-45 north, climbing through the Montes de Málaga to the Puerto de las Pedrizas pass. There the road joins the A-92M and then the A-92, which runs east past Archidona and the gorge of Loja towards Granada. Near Riofrío, a village known for its trout farms and caviar, the motorway follows the Genil valley into the Vega. We approach the Alhambra by the southern ring road, avoiding the city centre altogether. If you want a coffee break, the service areas around Loja are the natural stop.

Frequently asked questions
We are staying in Torremolinos. Is the price the same as from Málaga city?
Yes. Anywhere between Málaga and Marbella, Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola included, costs the same. The only difference is the pickup time, usually 20 to 30 minutes earlier than from central Málaga, which we confirm with you when the Alhambra slot is known.
Our Nasrid Palaces slot is in the afternoon. Does the day still work?
It does. We leave Málaga later, start in the city centre with the Royal Chapel, the Cathedral and lunch, and go up the hill in time for your palace slot. You are then back in Málaga in the early evening rather than mid-afternoon.
Can you drop us at a restaurant in Málaga instead of our hotel?
Of course. Many guests like to finish at a terrace in the Malagueta or by the port. Tell your driver on the way back and he will take you to the door, provided it fits within the tour time.
