Private Granada and Alhambra Day Trip from Marbella
From Marbella, Granada is about 180 km and two hours away. We collect you early at your villa or hotel, so the Alhambra visit, lunch and a short walk all fit before the drive back west.
The Alhambra is the most requested day out among our Marbella guests, and the distance is the main thing to plan for. It is around 180 km each way, about two hours on motorways the whole way, so the day starts a little earlier than it would in Málaga. In return you travel in a quiet Mercedes with reclining room to rest, and your driver handles the Málaga ring road traffic while you finish your coffee. On arrival you have the same three hours inside the monument as any other group, and an official guide joins you there when you ask for one.
Time in Granada is slightly shorter than from Málaga, so we suggest keeping the afternoon simple: lunch with a view of the Alhambra and a short stroll in the Albaicín or the centre. If you want a longer evening in Granada, extra hours can be added when you book. The centre is compact, so even a short afternoon gives you a real taste of the city, and your driver deals with all the parking while staying at your disposal: if the group is tired, you simply set off home sooner.
Sample schedule
- Pickup at your villa or hotel in Marbella, Puerto Banús or the Golden Mile
- At the Alhambra pavilion: tickets and audio guides, or your guide if you added one
- Three hours in the Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces and Generalife
- Driver collects you and takes you down to the Albaicín
- Lunch on a terrace facing the Alhambra walls
- Short walk to San Nicolás or around Plaza Nueva
- Departure from Granada
- Arrival back at your door in Marbella
Pickup
Pickups cover the whole Marbella area: Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía, the Golden Mile, the old town, Elviria and Las Chapas, and San Pedro de Alcántara. For a morning palace slot we usually leave at about 07:30, a few minutes earlier from San Pedro. Gated urbanisations are no problem; just give us the gate name and your driver will wait at the entrance or the door.
The drive
We head east along the coast on the AP-7; being a toll motorway, it is quicker and calmer than the old A-7 at that hour; the toll is already included. Past Fuengirola and Torremolinos we take the Málaga bypass, avoiding the city, and turn north on the A-45 towards Antequera. Beyond Las Pedrizas the A-92 takes over and runs east to Loja and Granada, across a landscape of olive groves and, on clear days, the snowy line of Sierra Nevada. A short stretch-your-legs stop at a service area near Loja is easy to arrange.

Frequently asked questions
Isn't two hours each way a lot for one day?
It is a long day, but the car is comfortable and the road is motorway all the way. Most guests read, sleep or chat with the driver, and the Alhambra is worth it. If you prefer, we can break the return with a stop in Antequera, which adds time at the hourly rate.
Do we pay the AP-7 toll or parking on top?
No. Tolls on the AP-7 and other motorways, fuel and parking in Granada are all part of the tour price. The only things you pay separately are the monument tickets, your lunch and any tips.
We are staying near Estepona. Can you still collect us?
Estepona is just beyond our standard area, so we quote it individually. It usually means a slightly earlier pickup and a small supplement. Send us your address and date and we will reply with the exact figure.
