Private White Villages Tour from Marbella
From Marbella we go up through Ronda to Grazalema first, cross the mountains to Zahara and finish in Setenil: three villages in a day, back on the coast in the late afternoon.
From Marbella the white villages are closer than many people expect: about 100 km to Grazalema, an hour and a half via the mountain road to Ronda. That lets us run the route in the opposite direction to the Málaga tour, starting in Grazalema in the cool of the morning, when the square is quiet and the sun is still low over the peaks. Setenil comes last, in the afternoon, when its shaded rock lanes are most welcome.
If you are staying in Nueva Andalucía or on the Golden Mile, this is the quickest way to swap the coast for the Andalusia of farmhouses, sheep and stone walls. The V-Class seats up to seven, so a whole family or two couples can travel together, and the driver keeps the cool box topped up with water for the hotter stretches. He is also at your service for the entire day, so if Zahara deserves another hour or you would rather be back for an early dinner, the itinerary follows you.
Sample schedule
- Pick-up at your Marbella, Banús or San Pedro address
- Grazalema: coffee, the Plaza de España and Payoya cheese
- Las Palomas pass: pictures of the reservoir far below

- Lunch in Zahara
- Drive north past Algodonales
- Setenil de las Bodegas: the rock lanes, guided or on your own
- Return through Ronda and down the A-397
- Drop-off at your door on the coast
Pickup
Pick-ups are in Marbella centre, along the Golden Mile, in Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía and San Pedro de Alcántara, and east as far as Elviria and Cabopino. We recommend leaving at 08:30, which gets you to Grazalema at about 10:00 with time for a coffee before you head over the pass. The final time reaches you the evening before.
The drive
We go up the A-397 from San Pedro to Ronda, skirt the town and take the A-374 and then the A-372 west into the Sierra de Grazalema, through cork oaks and grazing land. From Grazalema the CA-9104 climbs to the pass of Las Palomas and drops in tight bends to Zahara. From there a country road heads north past Algodonales towards Setenil, and the return is through Ronda and down the A-397 to the coast.

Frequently asked questions
Why start with Grazalema from Marbella?
Because coming from Ronda it is the nearest of the three, and this order means you go over the mountain pass in the morning, while it is cool. Setenil, in the afternoon, is at its liveliest and lies on the way home.
Can we see Ronda on the way?
You pass through it twice, so you could pause for ten minutes at the Puente Nuevo viewpoint if everyone is on time. A guided visit does not fit into the same day; Ronda itself is an easy hour from Marbella and deserves its own day.
Is there a lot of walking?
A moderate amount. Grazalema's centre is compact, Zahara is the steepest, and Setenil is mostly flat along the river. Expect two to three hours on foot over the whole day, at an easy pace with stops. Comfortable shoes are enough; no hiking gear needed.
