Private Caminito del Rey Tour from Malaga
The Caminito del Rey is only an hour from Málaga, which makes it a manageable half-day outing: out after breakfast, home in time for a late lunch.
Málaga, Torremolinos and Benalmádena are the natural starting points for the gorge. About 60 km of road separate the city from the north entrance, most of it on a quick road up the Guadalhorce valley. The whole tour takes roughly six hours door to door, of which two are in the car and the rest goes on the walk itself. It is one of the shortest drives of any tour we run, so it pairs well with a relaxed beach afternoon.
Public transport to the start exists but is limited, and taxis between the two ends are hard to find on busy days. Having a car that drops you at one end and collects you at the other saves the trickiest part of the logistics, especially when your group includes teenagers who want to get going straight away. Our drivers also know when the drop-off area gets busiest and plan around it. Car and driver stay with you for the whole six hours, so the afternoon can end at the beach or at your door, whichever you prefer.

Pickup
Our pick-up area runs from Málaga city to Fuengirola: the port area, Teatinos, Torremolinos, Benalmádena Costa and everywhere in between. For a typical late-morning ticket slot, we leave at 08:00, which allows plenty of time for the access walk. If your tickets are for midday, we push the pick-up back accordingly; the exact time is set once your slot is confirmed.
The drive
From Málaga the car takes the A-357 west and north up the Guadalhorce valley, by Cártama and then Pizarra, with Álora's hilltop castle in view across the valley. After the turn-off for Carratraca, a minor road climbs to the reservoirs of Guadalhorce and Guadalteba. On the way home from El Chorro the driver can take the slower, scenic road via Álora, where the old quarter and castle are worth a ten-minute stop.

Frequently asked questions
How early do our Caminito tickets need to be?
From Málaga, any slot between about 09:30 and noon works within six hours. Earlier slots are cooler and quieter in summer, so we usually recommend them.
Can we stop at the reservoirs for a swim?
Swimming is allowed in parts of the reservoirs around Ardales. If you want time there, it fits after the walk if you start early, or we can extend the day by the hour.
Is the drive from Málaga winding?
Only the last few kilometres near the reservoirs. The A-357 is a fast, mostly straight road for the bulk of the trip, so motion sickness is rarely an issue.
