Private Nerja and Frigiliana Day Trip from Marbella
Nerja is on the opposite side of Málaga from Marbella, so this is a full crossing of the Costa del Sol: an early start, a well-paced morning and the east coast's cliffs and white village.
From Marbella, Puerto Banús or Nueva Andalucía, Nerja is about 110 km away. The eastern end of the coast feels like another region: the high-rise hotels thin out, the mountains come down to the shore and the villages look more like the Alpujarra than the Golden Mile. Many of our Marbella guests say it is the part of the province they had never seen despite years of holidays. The scenery on arrival, terraced orchards and cliffs, is part of the reward.
With around 1 h 15 of driving in each direction, two and a half hours of the six-hour tour are on the road. We plan an early start so the cave, the village and the promenade all fit comfortably. If you want a long lunch as well, adding an hour is easy and often worth it. Your driver is on hand all day, so leaving earlier or lingering longer is simply your call. Children usually sleep on the way back; the motorway is smooth enough for it.
Sample schedule
- Driver at your door in Marbella, Banús or San Pedro
- Cave of Nerja: in at your booked time

- Quick tapas lunch or ice cream on the promenade
- Leave Nerja along the coast motorway
- Back at your hotel or villa
Pickup
Pick-up runs from San Pedro de Alcántara through Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía and the Golden Mile to Marbella centre and Elviria. We recommend leaving at 08:15, which puts you at the cave by about half past nine. Guests in San Pedro may be collected around 08:05; we confirm the exact time when you book.
The drive
We take the AP-7 or A-7 east past Fuengirola, then the Málaga ring road, which bypasses the city and the airport without touching the centre. Beyond Málaga the A-7 continues along the eastern shore by way of Torrox, over tall viaducts with the Sierra de Almijara rising inland. A good break for anyone who needs one is the service area near Vélez-Málaga, about two thirds of the way.

Frequently asked questions
Is six hours enough from Marbella?
It covers the cave, Frigiliana and Nerja, but lunch becomes a quick bite. Most Marbella guests add one hour at the chauffeur rate to sit down for a proper meal by the sea.
Do we have to go through Málaga city traffic?
No. The ring road bypasses the centre, and the only slow points tend to be around the airport junctions in the morning rush, which an 08:15 start mostly avoids.
Could we combine Nerja with Málaga city instead of the cave?
Yes, it is a private tour. Swapping the cave for a stop in Málaga's centre on the way home works well; if you have added an official guide, their hours stay in Frigiliana and Nerja.
Other private tours

Granada & the Alhambra
Spend a whole day in Granada from the Costa del Sol: a Mercedes and driver kept for your group alone, about three hours in the Alhambra, an official guide should you want one, then lunch and the lanes of the Albaicín before the drive home.

Ronda
A full day in Ronda at your own pace: door to door in a Mercedes with a driver who waits all day, the Puente Nuevo and the old Moorish town on your own or with an optional official guide, then lunch and the cliff-top viewpoints.

Ronda wineries & tapas
Two winery visits in the hills around Ronda, a long tapas lunch in town and a chauffeur who does all the driving, so everyone in the group can taste.
